The Deutz TCD2015 is a 16 liter V-8 engine rated 520 KWm at 1900 RPM. The Tier IVi's addition of the Common Rail electronic fuel injection system to combustion tuning improves the engine's power output, fuel efficiency, and extends lube oil replacement intervals (when compared with Tier III 2015). The Tier IVi's emissions control is accomplished with the use of a high efficiency turbocharger, tuned combustion, and the use of a Selective Reduction Catalyst (SCR) Emissions system. The Emissions levels accomplished are NOx of 1.5 gms/HP-HR, PM of 0.03 gms/HP-HR, HC of 1.4 gms/HP-HR, and CO of 2.6 gms/HP-HR (EPA Off-Road Diesel Certification). R. J. Corman Railpower expects that Locomotive Level Testing will demonstrate full compliance with the Locomotive Tier IV Emissions regulations that come into effect in 2015.
