Power When You Need It.
The RP Series locomotives use two or three modular "generator" driven Tier III diesel engines that start-up based on the locomotive's power needs. Based on throttle position, one, two, three or even four GenSets will be brought online.

Fuel savings are seen in applications where only one or two GenSets are required, an advantage over one large constantly running conventional engine. This is especially cost effective in switching operations.
