Our RP Series locomotives offer GenSet technology that use two or more Tier III or Tier IV engines that start up based on the locomotive's power needs. So, as throttle position changes, one or more GenSets will be brought online. As the notches increase, more GenSets are utilized. To ensure even wear, the locomotive's computer will bring GenSets online with the least operating hours first.

Fuel savings are realized through the use of smaller, more efficient Tier III GenSets, which provide a fuel economy advantage over one large, constantly running conventional engine.
