R. J. Corman’s 2026 Safety Commitment Week

At R. J. Corman Railroad Group, safety remains our highest priority. This February, our more than 70 locations across the country once again came together to dedicate an entire week to reinforcing that commitment during our 11th annual Safety Commitment Week. Throughout the week, team members engaged in focused discussions centered on key safety topics, ensuring everyone remained knowledgeable, prepared, and committed to maintaining a safe working environment for themselves and their coworkers.

The company’s Safety Department published daily articles on our internal communication platform, each of which discussed a key safety topic:

Day 1: Pinch Points and Red Zones – Team members should be able to identify and avoid pinch points and red zone hazards in a work environment. Regular inspections of machinery and tools, constant communication and situational awareness, and proper PPE are essential to prevent injuries.

Day 2: Slips, Trips, and Falls – Slips, trips, and falls are common reasons for workplace injuries. We emphasized the importance of proper footwear, housekeeping, and adequate lighting to prevent these incidents.

Day 3: Effective Job Briefings – All parties in a work environment should participate in a pre-task meeting to communicate potential hazards, safety procedures, and work expectations before starting a job or a task. A mutual understanding of all topics discussed is key to operating safely.

Day 4: Proper PPE – Personal protection equipment is worn to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses. It is the last line of defense when risks cannot be eliminated through other controls, and it is required by regulating authorities and our company’s safety standards.

Day 5: Safe Vehicle Operations – Safe vehicle operations are essential for our drivers and other motorists. Operators should consistently maintain a space cushion of safety, recognize driving hazards, and use turn signals appropriately when behind the wheel.

Throughout the week, we strengthened our safety culture by signing safety pledges, holding daily team safety briefings, and reinforcing key messages with themed candy bars (e.g. “Pinch points and red zones are nothing to Snicker about.”). Together, these activities underscored our commitment to safety and encouraged everyone to practice safe habits in their daily work.

Safety Commitment Week 2026 was a meaningful reminder of the role each team member plays in keeping our workplaces safe. We are grateful for the engagement and dedication shown across the company and remain focused on continuously strengthening our safety culture. By working together and staying vigilant every day, we help ensure that everyone goes home safely at the end of each shift.
